I began psych at the VA this past week. Love it! Wake up, make some bfast, get to work and have someone tell me...'I'm pretty sure God arranged my marriage to X (a certain well endowed celeb)". hmm. How do you feel about that? "Well, it's good. I'm pretty sure she'll be a good mother" ... ok
I'm leaving neuro in the dust....pfft. as you may notice, I didn't really post about my neuro experience. No one wants to hear me complain about the ED calling me for a STAT neuro consult at 2 am for an "88 year old man with 2 weeks of left foot numbness...." um ok... neuro. meh, go away.
I do assume you want a recipe...here's how to maintain composure through 3 hours of neuro rounding.... smelly feet, smelly feet. babinski sign is officially the worst test.
Easy peasy. Fry two eggs, season with S&P. Place in bottom of IKEA bowl of choice and top with sauteed veggies in a bit of herbs + balsamic or tamari, ginger, garlic and sesame.... Add extra protein, ie yogurt, to keep the tummy at bay while testing reflexes...or visual fields... or whatever
Anyway. On to pysch. I love it. Except the return of 24 hour call! AHHHHHH.... It will help me process this punishment if I can share my sweet call room digs with the internets.
Bed + Computer. This did not happen as a med student. Holla. The VA psych attendings pitched in to purchase an actual mattress, rather than your typical hospital mattress. We are pretty spoiled.
TV! What?! yessssss. Plus a weird leather chair to hold my junk.
con BaƱo Privado! Movin on up.
DVD collection.....
Personal stash, in case 30 Rock gets old.... It's gonna be ok...
Wow - interesting to see your call room! I am glad it's better than what you were used to as a med student...
ReplyDeleteI am glad psych is going so well for you! I am sure every day is very interesting!
That is AWESOME! One of the things I would like to do some day is work as a Psych Nurse at a VA hospital. Many interesting experiences to encounter! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's neat to see your call room. I'm glad you don't have a hospital mattress. Yet, since it IS IN a hospital - does it have the controls to move the head & feet up and down? ..... just a thought.
Very cool! But, not cool about the 24-on-call schedule. Yikes!!!
Very interesting to see the call room. At least you have a semi-comfortable spot to get some rest, when possible. Thanks for sharing. Too bad there are few food choices for you in the cafeteria.
ReplyDeleteIs there a fridge?
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Dad has a personal account now! You are also movin on up! There is a fridge/microwave area in the call room "Suite". There is also a fridge on the psych ward for us to use. Which is nice since the cafeteria closes at 3 pm on weekends. In case I miss out on the fried chicken legs, or fried chicken patties, or fried chicken breast with mashed potatoes...
ReplyDeleteThat is a neat little space! Thanks for sharing, and I hope your psych experience is rewarding! I know you have many stories to tell! During my nurses training, I spent 3 months at the State Hospital and got to spend some time in the locked women's ward! It was quite the experience, but the worst place was the medical floor where most of the patients were very ill and curled up in the fetal position. Some things are worse than death! I wonder if they still have floors like that? I pray they don't as things have to have improved after 40 years!
